Certain stains or discoloration that is caused by drinking tea or smoking can be easily removed by using a bleaching agent. Such stains are called extrinsic stains.

The Intrinsic stains are difficult or cannot be removed at all by any bleaching process. They make the inner layer of the tooth darkened or yellowish. The dental process mostly involves the use of bleaching agents like peroxide. One can follow the professional teeth whitening process where the teeth are given 5 to 7 shaded of coloring to patch up the stains or bleach the stains. Take care that while choosing those bleaching products since some of them may cause teeth sensitivity.

But for better results, always take the treatment from a dentist who will do the bleaching process better and perfectly ensuring that there will be no gel leakage that may lead to damage to the gums or enamel. The bleaching products used by the dentist in the professional in-office method are stronger than those that are available in the market. A single session or sitting will take one hour. A single visit is not sufficient for getting good results; one has to make 3 to 4 visits to the doctor.

Peroxide bleaching solutions that are available in the market can be used at home for the teeth whitening treatment but their concentration is very low and so the results may take time. Ask the dentist when you are planning to continue the process of doing the bleaching at home. The dentist will suggest the peroxide solutions and will give you custom made trays on which the gel has to be applied and then fit to the teeth.
